Cinema: Admit One

I love going to the movies!  It has been a couple of months since we've been because we all seem to all be going in different directions with hectic schedules, especially since school started again.  I'm hoping to go soon to see the one with Judi Dench.  I love her!

Our new movie brads and this retro designer paper are what inspired today's card.

I adhered some wide ticket washi tape to some white card stock and bordered it with some skinny washi tape, adding a little red pearl heart and a tiny red bow because that little bit of red in the washi tape design caught my eye.

Don't you adore these brads?!  Against some black, white and retro they really stand out!

Inside there's a little heart jewel bling atop black and white layers for another pop of color.

Happy Friday!  Have a great weekend!

Welcome Fall!

Fall is gradually starting to make its appearance here in our household.  I really LOVE these colors and this time of year gets me even more excited to craft.  Today I am sharing a Welcome Fall insert for a frame that remains on display year-round, next to my daddy's typewriter.  The images, new stamps from Stamp Simply, were stamped with Stazon ink and "painted" with distress oxide re-inkers on watercolor paper.

Once again I am using Simple Stories double-sided designer paper. It was perfect for this project because even though the backside of the frame is not meant to be on display it is visible, and so the double-sided paper made very easy to quickly add something attractive to that side also.

I confess to being an impatient stamper!  I thought the distress oxide ink "paint" splatters were dry when I flipped the piece over, but they weren't and of course, they smeared a little bit.  I am trying to be okay with oopsies like this, but UGH, they bother me!

Feel Better Soon!

When I was a little girl I dreamed of growing up to be a nurse (and ended up becoming a physical therapist).  This clean and simple get well card brings back memories of being a candy striper at the hospital.

These nurse brads set the stage for a red, black and white color scheme, which is one of my favorites.   Aren't they cute?  I love how detailed they are!

The black and white striped washi tape from one of our skinny washi tape sets is another go-to favorite, which makes a nice frame for the red and white pin-dot designer paper.  A shiny satin bow with a sticky back heart pearl center and a W+9 sentiment finish the card.

Lots of friends have said that with their kids back in school, the germs are being passed around, so I am sure a quick card like this will be good to have in the stash for just such an occasion!  I hope you and yours are well and that you have a great weekend!

Thankful for You!

Have you gotten all of your Fall decorations out for display?  I usually have mine out by now but I'm behind this year!  Hopefully this weekend I can make it happen!

I like having little trinket boxes at the place settings of our Thanksgiving table, and when the new Stamp Simply sets arrived along with some double-sided Simple Stories designer paper, I got the idea to make a modification of the tiny triangle box tutorial that I did for SCS a long time ago.  This one, instead of having a flap closure, has a slide-on/off belly band.

Just a trim or two (to center the printed design) of the 6 x 8 inch paper into a 6 x 6 inch square, plus the addition of a few score lines, and the box is done!  It doesn't take much time at all to fashion the belly band that holds it closed.  This is a really easy project that comes together quickly, which is great when you're making multiples.  If you wanted to, you could personalize it further with a calligraphed name, and it can hold a unique tiny trinket for each of your guests.

Here you can see the belly band removed, with the folds of the box opening to reveal the unexpected pop of pink polka dots and the cute floral print inside.  If you only have a few to make, you might stamp and color a stamped image to place in the center panel of the box bottom rather than using a pre-printed design.

Love, Admire, Respect YOU!

I love Love LOVE kraft and black together and decided to pair some cameo designer paper with our cameo washi tape for a sweet and feminine card.  Of course, there had to be some bling!

I used some jewel bling strips along with black and ivory paper flowers (tinted kraft with Tattered Angels spray) with a big shiny bling center.  Gotta have a little drama, too!

Please keep Florida in your thoughts in prayers!  Our whole state is hunkering down for "Irmageddon!"  I'm certainly hoping and praying that it won't be as bad as it sounds!

Thinking of You!

Today's project is a simple card made during a hectic week! Everyone in Florida has been watching Hurricane Irma intently, trying to make necessary preparations and informed decisions in light of the ever-changing forecast and in the shadow of Hurricane Harvey.

It means so much to receive phone calls and texts from friends and loved ones who are concerned for our safety, and to know that we are in their prayers...and the people of Texas, Louisiana, and Florida are in mine!

On the front of my card the dies nest together in several layers, and along with the pearls frame the sentiment, giving depth and interest.  The ribbons, tulle, jute and flowers echo the lovely, soft colors of this designer paper, and I just LOVE this beautiful stick pin!  And here's the inside:

In Stitches!

Hello friends!  TGIF!  I am SO ready for the weekend!  I am here today with a super simple card that was inspired by a scrap of white "dotted Swiss" paper.  It brought back lots of warm memories and gave me the idea to reach for the tape measure washi tapescissors brads, and a sewing machine stamp for this quick design.

I love kraft and black and decided to try out a relatively monochromatic scheme with just a couple of pops of color, repeating the color in a couple of places to tie things together. There's the yellow tape measure and the yellow enamel dot flower center, the black spool brad and the shimmery (glitter pen) black spool atop the sewing machine, the Copic warm grey sewing machine and the metallic scissors, and finally the green leaves and green ribbon.  The colors cause your eye to travel around the visual triangle of the various elements, the neutral background colors make the yellow and green really pop, and the black grounds everything so that it all works together.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
